Tankless Water Heaters

As part of our ongoing commitment to helping homeowners make informed decisions about their home remodeling and improvements, I'd like to share some insights on an increasingly popular option for your home's water heating system—tankless water heaters.

Tankless water heaters offer a range of benefits that can significantly enhance your home's efficiency and comfort. These systems are designed to provide hot water on demand without the energy losses associated with traditional tank heaters. Not only do they occupy less space, but they also have a longer lifespan and can reduce energy bills by 20-30%.

However, it's important to consider all aspects before making a decision. While the initial investment in a tankless water heater is higher than traditional models, the long-term savings and efficiency gains can be substantial. Additionally, these systems require annual maintenance to perform at their best, especially in areas with hard water. Thankfully most maintenance is easy to do, and takes a relatively short amount of time to complete. These include:

1: Descaling, where you use a descaling solution to flush mineral deposits out of your heater’s system to keep it running efficiently and increase the longevity of your heater (should be completed annual, or every 6 months in areas with hard water)

2: Water Filter Cleaning, a dirty filter will slow the efficacy of your heater increasing the amount of time it will take for the hot water to reach you. Filters should be inspected and rinsed annually, or every six months in areas with hard water. This decreases how often you will have to replace the filter, replacement should take place when the filter is damaged or irreparably clogged.

3: Unit and air supply inspection, making sure that all connection are tightened, that no corrosion is damaging your unit, and that your air supply is unobstructed and allowing for full usage. This preventative measure gives you peace of mind know that your water heater is doing just fine, and helping you get ahead of any problems that may need a quick fixing. This inspection should be performed annually no matter what type of water you have in your area
